A Town-Wide Reading Event
One Book, One Community is a program that started in Seattle Washington in 1996. This mission was to develop a community of readers and involve them in reading and conversing about the same book as well as stressing the importance for reading, writing and expressing ideas.
2008 Information coming soon!
Previous Programs: The Hudson Public Library has also decided to have a One Book, One Community program. We are calling our program "One Book, One Hudson." We have chosen a book for every age group and are planning to do some complimentary programming, although, our main focus will be on the adult book. All of the books have a common theme of contests. We will be announcing the program and displaying the books on April 17th during National Library Week. Patrons will be encouraged to read the books during May and June so they will be prepared to participate in the programs during July and August. The following is a list of books we've chosen:
- Adult Book - The Prize Winner of Defiance Ohio: How My Mother Raised 10 Kids on 25 Words or Less by Terry Ryan
- Young Adult Book - The Westing Game by Ellen Raskin
- Elementary - Beetles, Lightly Toasted by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor
- Preschool - The Bugliest Bug by Carol Diggory Shields and illustrated by Scott Nash
We will be having four discussions about the adult book as well as a discussion about the young adult and the elementary book. In addition to the discussions we have many events planned. Everyone is invited and we hope that you'll enjoy this year's books and events. Please see below for the dates and times of the discussions and events
