English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

Instructional materials are located in the Tavares Room. Patrons are encouraged to use these materials either in the library or at home.  For information about ESOL classes held in the library, please call the Hudson/Maynard Adult Learning Center at 978-897-4203.

Genealogy Collection

The genealogical materials at the library consist of three genealogy databases (Ancestry Library Edition, Heritage Quest, New England Ancestors), the Hudson Sun newspaper on microfilm (1865-present), many bound editions of the Hudson Sun and Enterprise,  various local history books including Town Reports (1867-present), and vital statistics on microfiche.

The information is available during library hours. Reference Librarians are available to assist in using the resources. Please see the Genealogy Section for more detailed information.

Early Childhood Collection (Children’s Room)

This parenting collection is located in the Children’s Room, topics include reading aloud, children’s literature, child rearing, potty training, homework tips, educational options and concerns and health issues.

Portuguese Collection

This collection, started with a grant, is maintained with current titles purchased with library funds. These materials are housed near the reference desk on the main floor and include books (fiction and nonfiction), and videos. We also subscribe to 3 newspapers: Lus Americano,  O Baluarte de Santa Maria and the Portuguese Times.

The Children’s Room maintains a varied collection of Portuguese language materials for children from birth to grade 6.  We offer DVD’s, picture books, novels, music, VHS, and non-fiction materials.

Spanish Collection (Children’s Room)

The Children’s Room maintains a varied collection of Spanish language materials for children from birth to grade 6.  We offer DVD’s, picture books, novels, music, VHS and non-fiction materials.  Even someone new to the language can start by reading these materials.

Preschool Non-fiction (Children’s Room)

New to our Preschool area is a collection of non-fiction materials.  Anyone who wants to read about dogs, cats, why the weather happens, or how to “go green” should visit this collection.  These factual books are geared toward children up to 2nd grade, but with engaging, easy to read text, and real-life color pictures.
